Hellatus for me officially ends October 7th with the eleventh season premiere of Supernatural. It's been a long, hot summer.
Every summer I try to do a Supernatural series re-watch, but that task gets more difficult as they keep adding seasons. Not that I'm complaining. Someday, I'll happily attempt to complete a 20 season re-watch in three months.
I'm a little behind this summer, though. I'm on episode 5.10. If you're keeping up, that's Abandon All Hope.
Abandon All Hope is where my re-watch gets derailed. Every. Single. Time. I think to myself, “Am I prepared to sob uncontrollably and be emotionally drained? No? Guess I’ll try again tomorrow.” I put it off day after day, even though I know I'll get "Pudding!" in the next episode.
Abandon All Hope and Croatoan are the two hardest episodes for me to watch. But then, I haven’t gathered the courage to re-watch 9.23 either.
I’m also passing the time with a new-to-me podcast that is a nice complement to my re-watch sessions. Supernatural: The Road So Far starts with The Pilot, and does one episode per podcast from a re-watch perspective. SNRSF also is not to spoil listeners who haven't completed the series.
The sound quality isn’t the greatest on the first few episodes, but it improves noticeably in Skin. In each podcast, the co-hosts play several clips from the episode-of-the-week and do a nice analysis after each clip.
So that’s my hellatus. Listening to SNRSF during my daily commute and watching a few eps of SPN in the evenings. Think I can get through five and a half seasons in the next three and a half weeks?
THREE AND A HALF WEEKS?!
I’ve got this.
